P2: Multiples and Mass

Title: Right?

Can 1

Materials: Water, Cigaret butts, Cigarettes

Can 2

Materials: Lard

I've always struggled with the ideas and motivations behind alcohol and nicotine. I know it's bad for me, and I know that I don't have problems with excessive use, but sometimes I can't shake the feelings of knowing that im doing something wrong when I am taking part in those activities. The lard is supposed to represent the hangover of excessive drinking: fat, slow, groggy, and greasy. And the frozen cigarettes encased in ice represent the time it takes to feel your lungs be freed of the tar and nasty shit that the cigarettes put in them. You see that, at the beginning, my friend Rashad and I are having a normal night, sharing a beer and watching a game. Then, as the night goes on, the cans shift in the oven. The monologue speaks for itself when I am talking about and questioning my own use of substances. The reason it's titled “Right?” It's because I am constantly battling myself on whether my motivations for drinking and smoking can ever be rationalized. Sometimes I can, and sometimes I can't, right?
